Metallica, Bangalore. A journey beyond words.

Never imagined it would be that insane, never fathomed it to be this amazing. I usually refrain myself from using these words, but if ever there was a time to use them, it is in recounting the Bangalore experience.

28th- Reached Bangalore, traveled 40kms for the Electronic city, reached Sahara’s place. Passed a couple of hours, waiting for the night to shine, real bright. Had almost 5 bottles of beer and then the breezer made me pass out. Strange, but don’t judge, had spent 40 freaking hours in the train to reach the city!

29th- Woke up, after around four hours, wobbly headed, got in a bus, went down to Brigade Road. Met school friends, relived the fabled childhood in those four wonderful hours we spent together.
Went down to Jimmy’s to meet the DA crowd. And when we got up, the bill on the table was Rs 10,000, and on counting, we had like 57 liters of beer among us (around) nine guys. Now, if that’s not having a blast, nothing is!

30th- The day we thought would never come. Metallica. I had been getting goosebumps for the last six months about this day, and it had finally, finally arrived. Okay, there was a controversy and Delhi couldn’t happen, but never there was a doubt that Bangalore wouldn’t happen. And we were correct, weren’t we!

30,000 fans at the Palace Ground. M.G road full of metalheads buying T-Shirts of their favorite bands, bumping into a known face almost everywhere. Everyone with a freaking big grin on his face! The Gods of metal were there, and so were we!

We missed the opening by Guillotine(Delhi based band), but when Biffy Clyro played, we knew that the evening had just started. My playlist has a new addition, this band from Scotland played some real good music. Do check out their song “Many of Horror”, it was the only one I had heard before, but watching them perform it live was a different thing altogether! The setlist of Biffy Clyro- “http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/biffy-clyro/2011/bangalore-palace-ground-bangalore-india-4bd1a7d2.html”

Then an agonizing 45 minutes wait, we pushed through the crowd, ingenious way, a zigzag mazy train, and we were near the second barricade. We waited for the security personals to go elsewhere, and then jumped inside for the first barricade. And that was the time Metallica was just about to enter the stage, and BAM, Creeping Death blasted off at the stage, followed by ‘For whom the bell tolls’. I was near insanity when it finished, but Fuel pushed me off the cliff. Describing the phenomenon is hard, when you have seen the videos of international concerts, blasts of fire erupting on the stage and Hethfield cries for “gmme fuel gmme fire gmme what I desire”. It was unreal.

Fade to black, One, Welcome Home, Sad but True, Master Of Puppets followed among others, and Nothing Else Matters made me cry. It was surreal, 30,000 odd crowd singing the same song, at the same pace. A second after destruction followed in the mosh with ‘Enter Sandman’.
Hethfield then played around with the crowd a little, with Metallica going off the stage, saying they’ll wrap the show. No one believed that the show was over, and they returned, with a cover, Battery and Seek and Destroy.

What followed too, will remain etched. Everyone came to the side of the stage we were around and said the goodbyes. And YES! I GOT A GUITAR PIC SIGNED BY KIRK HAMMETT HIMSELF! I threw myself on the ground, covering it, and took it, admired it, and am going to keep it in a glass cover.
Thank you Metallica, I traveled 80 hours to watch you perform, and you did. It was beyond words. We have grown up listening to you, and watching you guys perform live was beyond beyond. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

i’ve seen the Sun,
i’ve seen the darting guns,
i’ve seen the melting ways,
and i’ve seen the roaring waves.

i’ve seen what i’ve built,
crumbling before the very eyes.
and i’ve seen intricate details,
gone unnoticed before oblivious minds.

i’ve seen grown men cry,
and i’ve seen them bare their souls, the men with the heart of stone.

i’ve seen children laughing,
and i’ve seen them in pain.
i’ve seen their faces filled with promising lights,
and i’ve seen the darkness that filled their eyes.

i’ve seen more than i hoped for,
i’ve seen more than i wished.

i’ve been places where souls achieve bliss,
but it’s only the soft cushion of mother’s lap that i miss.

Aansu jhalakte hain,
Khud se sawaal kurte hain.

Ye chot tune kahan se khaayi hai,
Ya kahin khud ko pahunchaayi hai.

Akelapan kisi ko nahin bhaata,
Sooni sadkein sooni galiyan dekh dil bhar aata.

Nasha ek zarurat ban jaata,
Saare pal kaatne ki himmat ye dilaata.

Jawaabon ka saamna nahin karna,
Sawaalon se itraate hain,
Galatiyan jhelne ka hosla nahin,
Phir bhi unhe baat bebaat dohraate hain.

Itna gir chuke hain ke chalne se darte hain,
Ladai ke maidaan jaane se mukarte hain.

Dhoop jhel jhel ke thak chuke,
Ek suhaani chaanv ke sapne hain.

Saare apne paraaye hain,
Saare paraaye apne hain.

a day in our life.

chai, cigarette, galla, kicks

waking up at 1,
facing the scorching Sun.

covering the dreaded path,
of the room and galle ka dwaar

sitting there in peace,
of gandi si chai and them cigarettes.

returning inside the prison gates,
attending to chores and wait for a little Sun-shade.

football kicks and cricket hits,
evening dates always a miss.

trying to have cafe food,
damn it’s freaking 10 pm atleast!

rushing to Meherbaan,
stocking for the night a part of everyday plans.

returning to respectable rooms,
the midnight clock tick-tick dooms.

watching series, watching movie,
the dc plus plus releases excite.

wait for a little while,
the early morning chai from three to five,

the galla trips are important at night.
getting the theories of the market right.
you cannot wake up a fool,
knowing what you knew was as redundant as Chetan Bhagat’s books.

Either sleep at five,
or wait for the sun to rise.

if the Sun does rise,
get your ass up for yet another chai.

thank you! 😀

empty-
spaces.

vacant-
places.

expressionless-
faces.

lifeless-
eyes.

hollow-
insides.

jaded-
mind.

vacuous-
feelings.

asinine-
beliefs.

meaningless-
triumphs.

paled-
euphoria.

deplorable-
life.

one walks in the shadows,
unequalled, solitary, alone.

one pangs to cover the path,
unparalled, unrivalled, alone.

victory might come,
be yours after all.

at what price,
at what cost,
when the breathing becomes alien,
the meanings are all gone?

Honthon ki muskaraahat mein,
Aankhon ki nami chupaate hain.

Chalne ka dil nahin,
Phir bhi hum daudte jaate hain.

Haklaake kucch shabd dauhraate,
Khud pe thopi bhaasha badbadaate hain.

Manzilon ka thikaana nahin,
Jaane kiss raste ki oor badhte chale jaate hain.

Hum kya chahate hain,
Aaine ka saamna karne se ghabraate hain,
Ek paraayi zindagi jeete hain,
Roz aansu peete hain,
Roz aansu peete hain.

apple, RIP, steve jobs

Steven Paul ‘Steve’ Jobs. On second thought, I’d go without the quotes-unquotes. Steve Jobs. Today, we’ve lost one of the most amazingly talented geniuses on earth.
He had a style that sparks off brilliance, he had a demeanor of a man you know you can trust. When he spoke, it was just felt good to listen.
Compare that to the recent Keynote of Facebook. It lacked the certain aura of excellence that we have grown so accustomed to, whenever he brought us the first iPod, the first slim Macbooks, the first iTouch, the first iPhone. The list goes on and on. And even when he spoke about the nth generation of the product, you knew he was going to pull off another rabbit off his hat.
He will be missed, Steve Jobs. The world of technology owes him a lot. And all my childhood hours passed wondering over Apple’s newest products owes him a lot. The brand that’s become a household name all over the globe owes him a lot.
May he rest in peace.

Does there exist a difference between indifference and insensitivity? Can there is – a line which we can draw to mark on and tread it, step at a time.
Can we escape the social aspects of a society not being labeled as a pariah? Can we have the liberty of asking not to be labeled without being labeled a fascist?
If we shut ourselves up against everyone, do our part, aren’t we contributing to the place we live in? If not being judged is a small price we’re asking for not interfering, are we being judgemental of the society?
Personally, I find dance, drama, chit chat, jibber jabber useless. Unless that’s accompanied by my brand of cigarettes and/or a glass of a neat beverage. That limits my hangout joints but if I say I prefer it that way, am I being paranoid of what is not understood?
The meal at cafeteria with five friends! Well that might work a day an odd week with ‘my gang’, but the rest of the days, if I enjoy a meal alone, is that too much to ask for without being wondered upon to why someone has to eat alone. Folks. It’s a choice.
We’ve all become much restricted by the reservations we have imposed on our own selves. And by putting reservations on ourselves, we have been getting used to the little personal space we’ve created to hide back in. For some it’s a campus round, for some a trip to the Infocity, for some a sitting for some coffee at Java Green, and maybe for some, it is watching the turtles hide in the lotus pond or watching how the birds fly after a dive at the water. The point here is, what happens if the little space is taken for us. What happens to us when the chaos of the realization that our safe place is gone strikes? Do we pick ourselves up, go look for a new hiding place or we try to find how it got away in the first place?
When we try searching so hard for the answers, are we really very clear to what we want? Pick an average guy in this college and ask him if he really wanted to do engineering. The answer, in most cases than not will be a no. It’s shocking. What’s even more shocking is if you ask him what did he really wanted to do and he would have no answers. Why, when we have been pushed into a room where out ten doors, nine hold a prize, we go for the one which has none. Just because it looks cooler? Just because being a rebel suits the personality you want to support?
And. At last. Is it easier living a lie, than to acknowledge the truth which could break your palace of glass or strengthen it to metal. It’s your life. Pick a choice.

patricide, virgins defiled.
unpure self, in peace of mind.

calm exterior, inner horrified,
a tale of split personalities, protagonist with the devil smile.

thoughts, wander, graze,
in a hollow shell, they refuge, they pledge.

no more shags, no more peepholes.
sadism in actions, necrophiliac fantasies harcore.

mr jekyll or dr hyde, the mask?
outside in, or inside out?

nouns declined, words defined.
disturbed thoughts, a jaded mind.

khamosh,
bezubaan raat.

sooni,
anjaani raahein,
tarashti, jhoojhti,
kaali raat.

khilaadi the hum kabhi,
iss jhilmilaati raat ke.
kaidi hain abb,
iss raat ke andhere mein.

na kucch aata nazar,
na kucch aata samajh.
raston ko begaana banaati hui,
sehme zehen to dastak deti hui,
ye raat.

kabhi ye andhera tha thikaana.
gum hue, khelte the iski parchai mein.

kabhi kiya karte the intezaar iske hone ka,
abb karte hain dua ke guzar jaaye ye,
raat.
